The clay used in its production is impervious to water, which is a defining feature of Tokoname ware. Not only does this clay soften excess astringency and bitterness, but it also brings out the best flavor of the tea. The thin and durable nature of the clay makes it ideal for kyusu (teapot) , with the lid and body perfectly aligned to preserve the tea's aroma.

The Japan Tea Instructors Association, a non-profit organization, promotes and preserves Japanese tea culture through the endorsement of products. Established in February 2002, the Association contributes to health, culture, and education through the development of a new tea culture.
