Glazed stoneware・Wood-fired
From Liao Guo Hua’s personal archive come sixteen masterful teapots that together chart the breadth and variation of two decades of atmospheric firings in the artist’s remote wood kiln.
Iron-rich grog mixed into the clay body rises to the surface, expressing in a tactile constellation across this pot. Rich, rusted reds rise to a line of black ash dusted across the top of the pot as air pulled heat and flame across the kiln. There a tension here between the modern form and the patina of age, best articulated in the sculptural works of Ben Enwonwu. A tightly fitting lid, glazed interior, and honeycombed filter beneath the spout allow for quick, clean pouring.
With use, oils from tea will create a deepened color and luster on this pot's glazed surface. Signed by the artist.
Usage and care: This teapot is suit able for use with all tea types. Simply rinse between uses, or hand-wash without soap or detergent.
