Unglazed・Stoneware・Wood-fired
These cups were crafted from stoneware by Taiwanese ceramicist Zhang Yun Cheng, and fired in a wood-kiln for 5 days. Each entered the kiln unglazed, and depending on its location during firing, are richly textured and gilded by ash during firing. Each cup is distinct, but the series feature highlights of warm gold, and textured layers of ash.
While beautiful alone, these cups were intentionally designed for use alongside Cheng’s new gaiwans and teapots.
* Please take note that each cup can be slightly different in color tone and texture. It is not unusual to have areas of thicker ash glazing, and/or colorations that reflect the different interactions between the mineral content of the clay body and fly ash glaze. Each cup is different, and may not be identical to the photographed item.
Usage and care: Unglazed wood-fired pieces will season very slowly over time, though limited porosity allows for use of different tea types. Exterior of the teapot will deepen in color and develop a rich luster with use. Hand-wash only without soap or detergent.
