Celadon-glazed・Stoneware

This winter celadon bowl is a restock from the early days of Song. Ceramicist Hu Tie Hua’s studio is located in Jiufen, a small mountainside town located on the northern coast of Taiwan. His work, often glazed in celadon, are simple and sophisticated, echoing traditional lines.

This tapered bowl is the ceramicist’s rendition of a traditional tianmu tea bowl from the early Song dynasty. Rendered in stoneware, and glazed in celadon, this bowl gradually tapers to a narrow unglazed foot. The clay body is iron-rich, expressing as dark iron spots on the celadon. A natural crazing will be visible as the bowl is seasoned with use.

This is one of 30 hand-made bowls. Sizing varies between pieces. Please note that the bowl you receive may not be identical to the one pictured.

About Tea Bowls

In Taiwan, tea bowls are often used to drink loose leaf tea. It's quite simple and works wonders on most of our teas.

Simply warm a tea bowl, add tea leaves, and add water. We suggest using 1 to 2 grams less tea than our normal recommended dosage. Fill the bowl 2/3 of the way to the top. Pour a steady stream of water over the leaves to help them settle to the bottom. Steep until leaves have just opened. Sip, and add more water if necessary.

Usage and care: Hand-wash only, mild detergent is ok.
