Unglazed・Stoneware
This is the second iteration of a custom stoneware gaiwan designed just for Song. This new gaiwan is a touch smaller, and uses an iron-rich clay stoneware that gives the piece a dramatic charcoal gray hue.
This two piece unglazed vessel features a large 150ml capacity bowl with a smooth interior, and a highly textured exterior. The slightly curved lid ends in an elongated finial.
We’ve been using one of these gaiwans during our communal tastings and they are the ideal vessel for brewing a range of different teas with friends.
Usage and care: Unglazed stoneware pieces will season very slowly over time, though limited porosity allows for use of different tea types. Exterior of the teapot will deepen in color and develop a rich luster with use. Hand-wash only without soap or detergent.
