A thumbprint divot marks the surface of these delicate teacups, the artist’s hand reaching out across time and space to fit perfectly in the hand of the user. Pillowy white shino glaze covers each cup, crackling and crazing in webs deeply seasoned with tea. This seasoning adds contrast to these lines and a luminosity to the surface of the pot, a slight iridescence that catches reflected light. Freckles of iron from the clay body, and dabs of oxide on the rim keep the eye in motion across the form, highlighting the rhythm of the pot’s silhouette.
